In 1997, the Tamil Nadu government founded Periyar University, a government university. Established in accordance with the terms of the Periyar University Act 1997, the university is located in Salem, Tamil Nadu. Periyar University's reputation and high caliber of instruction have made it one of the most well-known and significant universities in the southern part of the nation. In the meantime, the institution also serves parts of the four districts of Krishnagiri, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, and Salem. According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), it is ranked 63rd out of the best institutions in India.
