It is important that candidates who plan to sit for the CLAT exam familiarize themselves with the complete CLAT syllabus. It is outlined by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs). The CLAT UG 2026 Syllabus, as well as the CLAT LLM 2026 Syllabus and Updated Exam Pattern, have all been released by the Consortium. A link to download both of the syllabuses has been provided on the Official CLAT Website.
All CLAT question papers are constructed using only information from the official syllabus (UG). Thus, candidates should expect to receive all questions from the areas of General Knowledge, Mathematics, English, Legal Reasoning, and Logical Reasoning when taking the CLAT 2026 UG Question Paper. Because the UG and PG syllabuses are completely different from one another, students must refer to the syllabus that applies to their specific degree program.
The table below contains subject-wise distribution of questions for the undergraduate programme based on the updated CLAT 2026 syllabus and exam pattern:
| Subject | Number of Questions | Weightage (%) |
| Current Affairs, including General Knowledge | 35–39 | 25% |

The Consortium has released the exam pattern for CLAT 2026 along with the official notification. The table below contains exam pattern for both CLAT UG and CLAT PG programmes:

Candidates preparing for CLAT should follow a well-planned strategy to stay focused and organised. Check the below points and keep these in mind:
Create a clear section-wise preparation plan
Go through the CLAT syllabus thoroughly
Use reliable and recommended CLAT books
Improve time management and accuracy through consistent practice
Attempt frequent CLAT mock tests to track progress
1. CAT UG Preparation Tips for English
In this section, you will generally rely on your Class 12 syllabus to prepare for most of the topics tested. The focus is reading comprehension, grammar fundamentals and vocabulary
2. CAT UG Preparation Tips for Current Affairs & General Knowledge
Keep yourself informed of significant national/international happenings by reading high-quality newspapers and magazine publications (The Hindu, The Indian Express, the Chronicles, Outlook India). Also, keep up with pertinent legal issues and key rulings, stay informed about these matters. When it comes to Static General Knowledge, focus on history, Art & Culture, as well as important government programmes.
3. CAT UG Preparation Tips for Legal Reasoning
To perform well in this section, candidates must develop an analytical & critical mind. Candidates must read legal news blogs, editorials and articles daily. By doing so, candidates will build strong analytical & critical reading skills.
Candidates should also review one (1) Legal Reasoning Passage each day to develop a good foundation for the exam. Candidates must base their answers to legal reasoning passages solely on the legal reasoning presented in the passage and not their pre-existing knowledge or bias.
4. CAT UG Preparation Tips for Logical Reasoning
Topics to focus on include logical reasoning, analogies, logical reasoning relationships, logical sequences, and logical arguments. Learn shortcuts for solving faster. When reviewing Logical Reasoning Passages, you will want to identify all arguments & premises in the passage prior to answering questions based on the Logical Reasoning Passage.
5. CAT UG Preparation Tips for Quantitative Techniques
This section requires you to be clear on concepts learned in Class 10 Mathematics; in other words, the concepts you learned in Class 10 must be used to answer all questions in this section of the paper. When reviewing Quantitative Techniques, focus on the following topics: Basic Algebra, Ratios & Proportions (R&P), Mensuration, and Statistics.
CLAT UG is based on the core legal subjects that were studied at the undergraduate level. Students must understand the CLAT LLM syllabus and examination format in detail to prepare effectively.
Review of important legal decisions and landmark cases
Increasing knowledge of all major constitutional & legislative provisions
Practice writing structured essays, beginning with issue identification, addressing the issues with facts, presenting relevant arguments, and then providing an overall conclusion.
Approximately four weeks in advance of the examinations itself, the Consortium will post available practice/online mock examinations for the CLAT UG and PG exams on the Consortium's website. The following are suggested guidelines for effectively utilising the mock exams that will be provided by the Consortium:
(i) Subscribe to an Online Reliable Mock Testing Provider
(ii) Schedule to take one (1) mock exam(s) per day, along with a previous year's sprint
(iii) Be mindful of the time constraints when taking each mock test
(iv) Evaluate your strengths/weaknesses based on each mock taken
(v) After the 5-10 mock tests, take note of the topics that kept showing up and study those in a greater depth, especially the higher weightage sections.
Reviewing the previous year's CLAT Exam is a vital aspect of your preparation for that test. Such a review will help you gain an overview of the CLAT Exam's level of difficulty, how it is formatted, and what areas of law tend to be tested most often. When you understand this information, you can prepare much more accurately and efficiently.
Once the CLAT 2026 exam has taken place, we will provide a thorough analysis here. Candidates may also refer back to previous CLAT exam analysis to assist you in understanding this year’s format. According to student responses, many of the logical reasoning questions required students to understand concepts and were often quite lengthy. Many students found that the English section was somewhat lengthy but still manageable i.e., there was a significant emphasis on vocabulary. Several students indicated that arithmetic questions on this section of the test seemed difficult.
